KIM WEST: Profile

Kim West was one of the first designers to bring latex out of the fetish industry and into the fashion world. From her store in Kensington Market in 1987 she challenged the traditional perceptions of latex clothing. Creating pieces for Vivienne Westwood collections and celebrities of the day Isabella Rossellini and Kylie.

As Kim predicted in an interview with Jonathan Ross in the early 90s wearing latex has become more and more acceptable. Only last season it was a major fabric on the catwalk at Louis Vuitton.

Having put her brand on hold for a while in the Nineties she is back with a new generation latex branded GLYDETEX, which requires no talc and feels like silk to the touch and further enhances its use in everyday fashion. Just this season she collaborated with Henry Holland producing popsicle coloured underwear for his catwalk show.

Kim also understands the importance of nurturing the new generation of Latex designers and has set up an e-store that runs alongside her own brand www.luxurylatex.co.uk, which gives young designers the opportunity to showcase and sell their designs.

It is also important to remember that latex is enviromentally friendly, it's naturally occurring rubber so you can enjoy it conscious free!

The Interview

How did you first get into designing and working with Latex?

Accidentally. I made a dress for myself and got inundated with orders. It's not the easiest fabric to work with but I discovered I was good at it.

You took a break from the industry what differences do you notice about the fashion industry now you are back?

The internet has changed the way we shop. We sell worldwide with out leaving the workshop. It's brilliant.

What would you say to someone that had never worn latex before to convince them to try it?

It's just a fabric. It's fun, sexy, looks and feels great.

What is you favourite piece from your latest collection?

The latex and neoprene dresses. I love working with neoprene and it mixes beautifully with latex.

What’s in the future for Kim West?

Shops. Lots of them.

What’s your life philosophy(in a nutshell)?

Be kind, honest, and generous.

What underwear are you wearing?

A Bravissimo bra and no knickers.

Salvatore Ferragamo: Milan Fashion Week

It's looking like we might be seeing the return of the camisole and slip this Autumn as brands throughout Fashion Week opt for the new trend for discretion. Beautiful camisoles at Ferragamo were edged with gold chantilly lace which co-ordinated perfectly with the outfit.

Versus: Milan Fashion Week

There is no doubt Christopher Kane is making an impact on Versus, the younger sister collection of Versace. ♡ the slightly dirty Jimi Hendrix rock n roll thing happening with sheer lace and point d'esprit net underlayers.

The Oscars: Diane Kruger

I felt a bit let down as I scanned all the images of Oscar frocks today, everyone looked so nice. What happened to pushing the boundaries and standing out from the crowd. Even the worst dressed list just looked like dresses that just didn't fit properly, not real fashion faux pas.
♡ Diane Kruger for co-ordinating lace bra and not succumbing to a bare all super plunge

Victorias Secret: Coming to London Town soon !

Now I am starting to believe it's actually happening. Following lots of speculation over many years, at last in 2012 the giant of sexy lingerie from America will be arriving on Bond Street, London.

Versace: Milan Fashion Week

There is no doubt that Donatella knows how to create a good corset dress, fabulously modern but still elegant. I wonder if we will see a star wearing one of these gowns at the Oscars tonight?

Loved the easy modern silhouettes at T by Alexander Wang yesterday. Especially the attention to detail that exposes a sliver of the mid shoulder creating a new erogenous zone

DIY Lingerie: Try it

Look what I came across, this really cute site
♡verypurpleperson
It takes a brave seamstress to attempt to make underwear, especially bras, as they contain many different components and the fit is so important so it's great to see such unique, individual lingerie pieces executed so passionately.
If you fancy making your own clothes and underwear I recommend a visit to her site and have a search on etsy for lots of vintage patterns.
