Released in 1972 this year marks the 40th anniversary of the film Cabaret. Following the removal of a major scratch, the film has now been restored to its former glory and released in HD
☆
The film had a lot to prove for the Director Bob Fosse who fought to be involved in its creation and the young actress Liza Minnelli who was on her way up the showbiz ladder.
Set around the Kit Kat Club in 1930s Berlin Liza Minnelli plays Sally Bowles, a club singer and fabulous bohemian.
It is an important film for showing open bisexuality which was pretty much unknown in cinema at the time and it has long been an important influence on style from Sally Bowles strong brunette bob hairstyle and dramatic eye make up (inspired by Louise Brooks and Thelda Bara) to her graphic sexy outfits mixing underwear and outerwear.
Get yourself some Cabaret style by playing with masculine feminine pieces. Try wearing a mans waistcoat or bib as a top. Check out pieces by Kriss Soonik who adds suspender ends to vests and turtlenecks.
A really easy way to do this look is to wear a black bra under pale or white vest or blouse or let a black bra strap peep out of a pretty outfit. Dramatic and much better that a greying white bra strap anyway!
You can also accessorize a shirt or T-shirt with a bow tie for a really cute look.
Bring on the Cabaret!
